Why We Can't Ship Ants to Hawaii (Yet)

None of our 46 species can currently ship to Hawaii. USDA-APHIS requires a PPQ 526 permit per species per destination state, and Hawaii maintains some of the strictest live-insect rules in the country.

We will never ship live ants to Hawaii, and the reason is conservation, not logistics. The islands have no native ants at all — every ant established in Hawaii today arrived with human commerce, and endemic wildlife that evolved without ants has few defenses against them. The damage is not hypothetical: the tropical fire ant, Solenopsis geminata, is already established in the islands and remains a genuine problem for Hawaiian wildlife and agriculture. The Hawaii Department of Agriculture prohibits importing live ants, and that prohibition protects animals and plants that exist nowhere else on Earth; we would decline to ship even if the rule vanished tomorrow. So this is a hard no rather than fine print — no species, no exceptions, no workarounds.
