Founding strategy

Claustral. One or more queens, sealed founding chamber, no outside food needed for the first generation.

Natural history

Widespread across the eastern US Generalists that make-do with a wide range of conditions. Polygynous ants capable of having tens of queens within a colony, while having noticeably much larger queens than their relatives M. carbonarium. These tiny iridescent blue generalists can be found scavenging insect carcasses, or be found collecting nectar from flowering plants. We do not know If these ants will readily mate inside of the nest.

What to expect as a keeper

Fast-growing, forgiving species capable of having many queens. These metallic foragers have a big appetite for protein so keep them well fed and the colony will grow like there's no tomorrow!
