Some do. Ants that don't eat seeds, like Carpenter Ants, will ignore it. Most Harvester Ants will take them. However, they have to chew through a seed's outer shell before they can eat it, and chia, at about 1.3 to 1.4 mm wide, sits right at the edge of what many species can chew through. Smaller seeds like poppy and teff get opened far more reliably.
If you do offer chia, use plain, organic chia. Seed sold for planting and birdseed are often treated; it's not worth the risk.
Our Premium Seed Mix is formulated for Harvester Ants specifically, and What Do Harvester Ants Eat? graphs which seeds they can open.
